Cheetos XXTRA Flamin' Hot Crunchy

Food Review (Posted on 06-28-2015)

Hey Chester Cheetah and the entire Cheetos and Frito Lay corporation: yes, I can handle ALL that heat.

Okay well, it wasn't until later. When I first saw this, I thought, "man, they're really raising the ante in terms of spice." Back then, pepper was already spicy for the average hungry consumer. Nowadays, out taste buds get used to the heat that we now get a sense of the other ingredients mixed in. Naturally, I went with it and gave it a shot.

My first snacking on this was unbearable. After, give or take, 5 or 6 pieces, I stopped. I breathing so hard, I thought I was going to pass out; I drank ice-cold water, beer and milk to remove the "capsaicin party" on my tongue. It was painful but the pleasure was nice. (It's one of those things men do to overcome the agony to keep his manly card on his sleeve. Any women try this see who's the "hotter" one?) Besides all that, it's relatively the same snacks Chester has been giving us for years on end.

Like with most spicy foods, you grow to get used to the heat. I like the spices on this snack so I usually go for this occasionally, depending on my taste and mood. Nevertheless, it's the most flavorful I've had, if you can dodge all that heat.

As with other chips, there are bags of these where there are smaller portions than other bags. I suggest Cheetos®, or Frito Lay, kindly to never assume that a half-full bag of XXTRA Flamin' Hot® is enough for the average person or the chips addict. Fill the entire bag generously. Now, yes, I understand some room is needed for compensation when someone opens the bag. I don't know about everyone else but me personally, I'm careful opening it; Sometimes, I use a pair of scissors to neatly cut the end of the bag open to prevent "over-pulling" when opening the bag, which could cause an extra tear on the side leading to spilling the precious pieces. Yeah there are people who open in a hurry or are too excited to snack on these tornados of bliss, but please, the snacks aren't going to run away or expire in an hour. Take your time opening it, and perhaps, we may be offered more. (I don't feel that bag opening has anything to do with increasing the portions, but given the fact it correlates with the opening puts this briefly in perspective.)

Anyway, other than that, challenge yourself and snack on this. It will be hot and spicy for most people, but you'll overcome it, don't worry.

UPDATE (01-28-2018): After a one-month grace period, we have received no response from Frito Lay asking why they injected Genetic Engineering into their popular Flamin' Hot products and others. Even though the label indicating as such has been recently removed from their bags, we regret to inform food fans that we no longer will associate nor will we do business consumerism with Frito Lay and their products because of this. Eat well and protect your health from genetically modified food, ladies and gentlemen. While we're a big fan of Cheetos' mascot Chester Cheetah, this new injection is unacceptable regardless (as if the chips don't have enough). There are other, better alternatives.
